02:28 pm - Freecycle
I was a member of a group online for a few months that was designed as a way to give and recieve items that were no longer of value to other people. The person in charge of the group was constantly going ot war with the parent organiation so she chose to break away from them and form her own, new group.
She broke away taking everone with her... just changed the main info on the yahoo group so the name was different, but essentally "stole" all the memebers who were there previously. When we found out, obviously we had the option to stay or not. I did stay, but at the same time rejoined the orriginal list under the orriginal organization when it reopened (again, not against the rules of either group).
Now the "owners" of the breakaway group are sending out admin messages talking about everything the first group did wrong (I would call it slander, but some of the things might be true so I am not sure slander is the right word). In any case, the cattyness of the breakawy owners is reay starting to irk me. Thing is, they seem to get more traffic.
So the question is, do I drop my membership to the breakawy group because I do not like the way the owners are conducting themselves?

freeTOreuse
Freecycle was and still is about CONTROL!!!!
freeTOreuse now runs under freeONTARIOreuse and I heard that they now have 6 other groups within Ontario, Canada and they are TOTALLY FREE and they do not depend on a grant or a salary. They are also not about CONTROL - and are much lenient when it comes to rules.
